Challenge: Create a UI design for an app that helps design professionals keep track of their work and extract a portfolio.
Subchallenges:
It needs to archive your work and track your project time.
The user needs to be able to collaborate.
Use of the app needs to be intuitive.
Wireframe: After conducting research I made a wireframe With different iterations to try out what works best for this type of app.
As this was a group project, the three of us tried to all go a bit in a different direction to see what worked best.
Color and details: After I did the wireframe I made the design more detailled and added color to prepare it for testing.
Testing the Apps:
As a group, we created three individual designs and tested all three with users to see their reactions.
The most critical findings were:
Several different steps leading to the same screen felt weird to users.
Users prefer colors only when they indicate something.
Icon use should be consistent throughout the app.
Final Design:
Using the test results, we created a whole new design as a group. For this design, we chose to recreate some of the screen structures from the earlier stages but redid all the coloring and details.
We stayed consistent with icons and coloring throughout the entire app, using color mainly for guidance purposes.
